Your school accounts hold your essays, logins, and sometimes even your grades. One weak password, one careless click, and you could lose it all. Lock them down now.

  • Passwords: Use long, unique ones. Passphrases or first-letter tricks work best, with symbols mixed in.
    • Real-world fail #1: Lisa used “lisa2020” everywhere. A key-logging virus picked it up once — and her other accounts fell like dominoes【sans.org】.
    • Real-world fail #2: In June 2025, researchers cracked McDonald’s AI hiring bot admin login in just two tries — because the password was “123456.” That slip risked exposing applicant data for 64 million people【thedailybeast.com】.
  •
  • MFA: Annoying? Yes. But it stops thieves. Authenticator apps are better than SMS codes.
  • Recovery methods: Just as important. Set up at least two trusted ways to reset — a secondary email, SMS to your phone, or even printed recovery codes. Make sure they’re current and secure, so you’re not locked out when you need in most.
  • Phishing: Never assume emailed links are safe, even if the message looks real. Best practice is to type the web address yourself in the location bar — it takes a few extra seconds but could save your data.
  • Public Wi-Fi: Handy in a pinch, but it’s the Wild West. Criminals can set up free-looking hotspots designed to steal your personal info. The TSA and Canadian Bankers Association warn these “evil twin” networks can intercept every keystroke, including passwords and banking data. Think of it like a thief quietly pulling the next cheque out of your chequebook — it looks authentic, with your details and even your signature “embossed,” but it’s being used by someone else. By the time you notice, it’s already cashed.

💡 Sherry’s Tip: Assume someone is watching every time you’re on public Wi-Fi.
